Leadership Skills

kids bjjEvery parent wants to instill confidence in their child in order to handle peer pressure in a positive way. Bullies are more likely to pick on kids with less confidence, which only comes from practice and experience.

The rewarding experience provided by Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, systematically builds confidence in kids of all ages. Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Program teaches students how to become role models among their friends, promoting the practice of leadership and exercising the proper life skills to their full potential! Confidence, teamwork and public speaking are just some of the leadership and life skills we teach and practice.

Our students learn that they are rewarded for the effort they put into tasks, as well as learning how to emotionally handle situations which don’t go as planned.

Improve Physical Fitness and Condition

Fun Camp kids bjjOur kids martial arts classes are filled with drills to build stamina, strength and speed. They assist students to improve their coordination, balance and endurance, which will give them an edge in other sports and activities, besides Jiu-Jitsu.

Excellent demeanor, patience and a variety of teaching levels from all of the instructors”

Bryan_Picallo_vagner_rocha_martial_arts“I brought my son in to try a free month, needless to say it wasn’t necessary. I signed him up two year ago. To date, my 7 year old son is now ranked first in the state of Florida, first in the region, and in the top ten at the national level amongst 13 year olds. There is an excellent demeanor, patience and a variety of teaching levels from all of the instructors. Vagner Rocha is the head instructor and he teaches the classes personally. He recognizes each child’s strength and weaknesses, and he pairs them up accordingly to ensure that each child excels. Not many schools offer a true UFC Fighter just a couple of feet away from your child, giving them directions personally. Yes, South Florida has many good schools, but few schools have the concentration of skill-tested fighters. You want to be the best, then Train with the Best.”

“Vagner & his instructors treat my children as if they were their own”

kids martial arts miramar“If you’re searching for a place to get in shape, get healthier, learn self defense, push yourself, and make life-long friendships, then you need to be training at VRMA. I found them by shear coincidence, after being ready to give up on any sort of training. I have only been with them for one year and it has changed my life. When I first started I was 257 lbs, out of shape and completely over weight. I was going to the doctor for just about everything, from my knees to my back, to hips and ankles. Vagner and his staff of instructors provided me with tools, encouragement and honest commitment to help me get back in shape, and getting me stronger than I was when serving as a U.S. Marine. My sons, who both have developmental delays, issues of confidence and aggression, also train at VRMA and it has become a bonding expirience for me and my boys. The training increased their focus, confidence and work ethic by leaps and bounds. The difference between my boys now and before having trained with Vagner, as well as his staff, is night and day. I am very over protective of my children, but Vagner and his instructors treat my children as if they were their own, I can go on about my day knowing that they are being trained by one of the best in BJJ today. The instructors and students at VRMA are the best I have come across in a very long time. They have become more than just Instructors and training partners but have become like a family. As my son tells his friends, ‘if you are not training at Vagner Rocha Martial Arts, you are not training.’”

“My son is also learning about hard work, commitment, dedication and being a part of a team”

plantation martial arts“I live in Plantation and drive to Pembroke Pines three to four nights a week so that my 13 year old son can train with Vagner at VRMA. There are a lot of places where he could train that are closer to our home, but I have found that Vagner and all the guys there push him to do his best and do it with respect. He is not only learning BJJ from one of the best practitioners in the state, but my son is also learning about hard work, commitment, dedication and being a part of a team. He is learning very well – he has the medals to prove it! The all around confidence my son has gained in the past year is well worth the drive and I would highly recommend Vagner and VRMA to anyone!”

“My son is in great shape and now he’s making better choices all on his own”

Kids Martial Arts Weight Loss“This is what hard work, dedication and never giving up looks like. Since my son began at Vagner Rocha Martial Arts, there has been a huge change as you can see. He also started eating more fruits and veggies instead of a ton of junk food. He still has treats when he wants, but is making better choices all on his own. Words cannot express how proud we are of him. We are thankful we are to have found such an amazing school!”

Frequently Asked Questions:

“Will martial arts make my kid violent?”

Absolutely not! We do not teach kids how to kick and punch so they can go down the street to use it on the neighbor’s kid. Instead, we teach kids self-defense as a tool for personal growth and development. Kids learn to treat others as they want to be treated. They learn to respect all living things – from their parents to their pets. Often, kids who are violent before joining our classes have changed and become non-violent individuals. So, in short, martial arts will not make your child violent!

“What if my child is not athletic, will he have a hard time?”

Often children who don’t find success in team sports come to martial arts, and they love it. That’s because with martial arts, the child will go at his or her own pace. See, team sports actually harm the self-esteem of children who aren’t very athletic. When they don’t perform well, the other kids can be pretty nasty. And this can leave some serious scars on their self-esteem. But with martial arts, everyone goes at their own pace. Some kids learn quicker than others – but the children who advance quickly are not valued more than the kids who advance slowly. Everyone is encouraged regardless of his or her athletic level.

“What age is appropriate for martial arts?”

We have programs for kids who are 4 years old, all the way to teenagers. We also have programs for adults. So to be honest – any age is appropriate. We have a class for each age group that fits just right.

“Will my child get hurt?”

I’ve had children come to my program for years without ever obtaining a single injury. This is actually the case for most children. Have children been injured in my martial arts class? Yes, some have. But the injuries were no different than those sustained by kids who play baseball or other sports. Our instructors pay close attention to detail when it comes to safety. From ensuring we have padded floors to step-by- step instruction – we do everything in our power to ensure your child’s safety. I cannot guarantee that no injuries will occur, but I can tell you that almost no children receive injuries throughout my programs. That is because we take safety very seriously.

“Is martial arts just for boys, or can girls take martial arts classes too?”

If I’ve learned anything in my years of teaching, it is that girls are just as tough as boys. Many are even tougher! So, don’t worry about your little girl getting hurt, or feeling scared because she’ll be practicing with boys – they, in fact, may be the ones who are scared.
